Instagram lets users control what they want other people to see on their posts, from hidden comments instagram to blocking certain commenters. The social network has also been introducing tools to help users take a more proactive role in managing their online conversations.
Can you hide comments on Instagram live when watching?
In an update to the Instagram app, the company has now made it easier for people to view hidden comments on their own posts. The company says this is in response to feedback it has received about the tool. It’s also extending a feature that automatically prompts people to reconsider posting negative comments by showing them more than once.
This will now show them a warning message that says “You might think this is okay to say, but others find it hurtful or offending.” The company has already been testing this feature with people in a few countries, and it will expand the availability of these tools globally.
If someone sees a hidden comment on their post, they can tap on it to see what was hidden. They won’t be able to hide a comment again, however, and the person who wrote the comment won’t receive a notification or know it was hidden. The total comment count on a post still includes any hidden comments.
Instagram users can manually hide comments under their own posts by tapping on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner of the app. They can also set their comment controls in their profile settings. Here they can turn off comments on all posts, only hide offensive or spam comments and use the Manage custom words and phrases option to add a list of specific words, numbers, emojis or phrases that they want to avoid seeing in comments and message requests.
